Community Development
In 1992, MBSCC expanded its mission to include community development, addressing critical gaps in services and resources through initiatives like the Comprehensive Community Revitalization Program and the Neighborhood Preservation Program. These programs emphasized strategic planning and collaboration to transform neighborhoods and create lasting change.
Through neighborhood-based coalitions and alliances, MBSCC brought together community stakeholders to implement impactful programs that have strengthened the South Bronx. Key outcomes include:
- 161st Street Business Improvement District (BID): Enhancing the economic vitality of the area by improving infrastructure, beautifying public spaces, and supporting local businesses.
- Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP): Addressing housing and urban planning needs to preserve and revitalize neighborhoods, ensuring residents have access to safe and affordable living conditions.
- AFH Small Business Incubator: Supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing resources, training, and opportunities for growth.
These community development initiatives reflect MBSCC’s commitment to empowering residents, fostering economic growth, and creating sustainable neighborhoods that support and uplift the community.
