Mission

From human services to housing development, from economic revitalization to community empowerment, all the programs and initiatives of the Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council (MBSCC) are designed to accomplish the following goals:

  • To enhance the quality of life for residents of the South Bronx
  • To ensure they are afforded the opportunity for economic and social well-being that will enable them to remain in the community and live with dignity for themselves and their surroundings
  • To encourage them to become vocal, active and positive contributors to, and forces in their community

Freedman on the Concourse Guest Rooms

Situated just 20 minutes from New York's Times Square, yet nestled on a scenic avenue with quiet elegance, this charming, ten room guest house is the perfect escape after exploring the city's shops, museums and local parks.

Our delightful, 1920s themed rooms are elegantly restored and conveniently located on the historic Grand Concourse in the Bronx, just minutes from Yankee Stadium. Enjoy beverages and light fare in our vintage speakeasy lounge. Play croquet and badminton on our expansive lawn, then retire comfortably to one of our beautiful bedrooms that boast en-suite baths. Soak in a relaxing tub at the end of your day’s adventures.  Join us each morning for a delicious, complimentary, continental breakfast before heading off once again.

Our lodging facility is part of the Andrew Freedman Complex Residential Integrated Culinary & Hospitality (RICH) Initiative, a 12 week, comprehensive program, designed to increase employability of local residents by professionally training and certifying participants in the hospitality and culinary trades.

In collaboration with The Bronx Arts Alliance, The Andrew Freedman played host to WeAre Still Here - Art in the Bronx, a recent exhibition that featured the work of 25 artists, representing 13 art organizations. The show also included two works by famed artist, Romare Bearden. The exhibit was part of a special Bronx Armory Show event, which ran in March 2013.

"When the founders of Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council first came together in the early 1970s, it seemed as if everyone believed it was possible to change the world, and necessary.  We certainly believed it!  We were a diverse group of activists - parents, social workers, business people, representatives from many different faith-based institutions and from many different ethnic groups.  We understood that there was a lot of work that needed to be done.  Our response was to roll up our sleeves and do it."
